Medicare Supplement (Medigap) in Jacksonville

A Medigap plan pays for much of what Original Medicare leaves you owing, like the 20% you would otherwise cover with no annual cap. You pay more each month in exchange for fewer surprise bills.

In short

A Medicare Supplement, or Medigap, plan works alongside Original Medicare and picks up costs like coinsurance and deductibles. It costs more monthly than an Advantage plan, but lets you use any doctor that accepts Medicare and keeps your bills predictable. It often fits people who travel or want steady costs.

What does Medigap cover that Medicare does not?

Original Medicare leaves you paying 20% of most Part B services with no yearly cap, plus deductibles like the $283 Part B deductible and the $1,736 Part A hospital deductible per benefit period in the 2026 plan year. Medigap plans cover much of that.

The exact amount depends on which lettered plan you choose. Some cover nearly everything, others leave a small share to you in exchange for a lower premium.

Why does the 6-month enrollment window matter so much?

You get a one-time 6-month Medigap open enrollment that starts when you are 65 and enrolled in Part B. During it, a carrier cannot turn you down or charge more for health reasons.

Once that window closes, most Medigap applications can involve medical underwriting. That means your health history may affect whether you are approved or what you pay.

Does Medigap include drug coverage?

No. Medigap plans do not include Part D, so you would add a separate drug plan to cover prescriptions. In the 2026 plan year Part D also caps your out-of-pocket drug costs at $2,100 and insulin at $35 a month.

We can line up a Medigap plan and a Part D plan together so nothing falls through the cracks.

Can I use any doctor with Medigap?

Yes. Medigap works with any provider in the country that accepts Original Medicare, with no network to check. That tends to suit people who travel or split the year between states.

There is no cost and no pressure to compare it against an Advantage plan first.
